To account and audit all income and expenditure of the Government of Bangladesh Audit and Accounts Department have been established. The department works as a watchman of the government treasury. In order to make the accounting system more streamlined and dynamic according to Comptroller & Auditor General(Additional Responsibilities) (Amendment) Ordinance-1983,article-03 the Government, on July 1, 2002, segregated the Accounting Department from the Audit Department. This is effective from July 1, 2012. The district and upazilla accounts offices were formerly known as treasury offices. Now a days this office named as ‘Accounts Office’. In order to bring transparency and accountability of the republic, 52 chief accounts offices and for monitoring field offices was 08 divisional controller of accounts offices were formed. There are 52 chief accounts offices, 08 divisional offices, 56 district accounts offices and 426 upazilla accounts offices are set up to preserve the accounts. District Accounting Office, Kurigram has been established on the date of 01.2.1983. Determination of salary, payment of pay and allowance, calculation of leave of officers, payment of salary and allowances of employees of check drawing department(like Public Works, Roads and Highways, Public Health Engineering), payment of repair& services, GPF advance / final payment of officers and employees, payment of various loans and advances, payment of pension gratuity, Payment and preserve accounts of various grants and projects on the basis of the authority of the concerned Chief Accounts Office have been executed through district accounts office. Monthly accounts, the reconciliation of receipts and payments from various offices with accounts offices, the compilation of the accounts of the District Accounting Office with the Sonali Bank, the verification of the money deposited in the public treasury have been executed through district accounts office and arrangement to resolve the audit observation of the funds raised by the civil audit.
